Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to expand its SUV line-up with the much-awaited 2025 Grand Vitara 7-seater (codenamed Y17). The three-row SUV, which was recently spotted testing near Maruti’s manufacturing plant, is expected to debut around Diwali 2025. Meanwhile, based on spy shots, digital artist Shoeb R Kalania has showcased the Grand Vitara 7-seater in a detailed video. These renders offer a glimpse into the design and features of the vehicle, giving enthusiasts a sneak peek ahead of its official launch. The introduction of this new model will further strengthen Maruti’s position in the growing three-row SUV segment, which is aimed at large families and SUV enthusiasts.

Design and Features

According to the latest spy images and Renders the seven-seater Grand Vitara will be 4,345 mm longer and will have the same 2,600 mm longer wheelbase than the existing five-seater model. This extended length will accommodate a third row of seats, offering more practicality for family buyers. The design includes a new two-piece grille, a new front bumper, a revised headlamp arrangement and a revised air dam. Changes at the rear include new alloy wheels, new LED tail lamps with connected light bar, redesigned rear bumper, roof rails, shark fin antenna, rear wiper and washer.

Inside, the new Grand Vitara 7-seater is expected to feature an all-new dashboard with a large, standalone touchscreen infotainment system. This model will offer 6-seater (captain’s chairs) and 7-seater configurations to suit different preferences. Expected features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, rear air vents and more. The vehicle is expected to come equipped with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that will enhance safety and convenience.

Powertrain options

The Grand Vitara 7-seater comes with the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and 1.5-litre hybrid petrol engine as the current model. The mild hybrid setup is available with a five-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission and produces 103.06bhp and 136.8Nm of torque. The high-performance hybrid version produces 115.56bhp and 141Nm of torque mated to an e-CVT gearbox. An optional all-wheel drive (AWD) system is also expected to be offered.

Interestingly, Suzuki has registered two possible names for the Grand Vitara 7-seater: Escudo and Tornado. Escudo has historical significance as an international name for Vitara, while Tornado focuses on power and performance. The final name is yet to be finalised, but both options are in line with Maruti’s brand strategy.

Price and Market Competition

Maruti Y17 is expected to be priced at around Rs 15 lakh. It will compete with existing models such as Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700 and MG Hector Plus. Toyota is expected to introduce a rebadged version of this model under its own brand.

The upcoming Maruti Grand Vitara is a game-changer in the 7-seater SUV segment, offering more space, premium features and powerful performance. With its increased length, revamped interiors and multiple powertrain options, the Y17 is set to appeal to both large families and SUV enthusiasts. The launch of this model is expected to further strengthen Maruti’s position in the highly competitive three-row SUV market.
